Pain Reprocessing Coaching
Colette DeHarpporte, MA, NBC-HWC - Pain Reprocessing Coach & MBSR Instructor
I’m a Pain Reprocessing Coach and Nationally Board-Certified Health & Wellness Coach and Mindfulness Instructor who helps people with persistent pain understand and work with pain through a mind-body and neuroplasticity-based approach.
My work brings together Pain Reprocessing Therapy principles, pain neuroscience education, mindfulness, self-compassion, and behavior change to help clients develop a new relationship with pain and expand what feels possible in their lives.
A central part of my approach is mindfulness. I am a trained Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Instructor through the UC San Diego Center for Mindfulness, with extensive experience teaching mindfulness in healthcare, community, and other high-needs settings. Rather than using mindfulness simply as a relaxation technique, I teach it as an experiential skill for becoming more curious and less fearful of physical sensations, recognizing patterns of attention and threat, and developing greater flexibility in how we respond to pain.
My work is grounded in the understanding that pain is real, while the brain and nervous system play an active role in constructing the pain experience. When appropriate, learning to recognize pain as a protective response rather than a signal of ongoing damage can create new possibilities for recovery.
Our work together is collaborative and practical. We will explore pain neuroscience, somatic tracking, mindfulness practices, nervous-system regulation, self-compassion, graded engagement with meaningful activities, and the ways attention, expectations, emotions, and context can influence the experience of pain.
I do not provide psychotherapy or mental health treatment. As a Pain Reprocessing Coach, my role is to educate, coach, and support you as you develop new skills and experiment with new ways of responding to pain. Coaching can complement both medical care and, when appropriate, psychotherapy or other clinical services.
My goal is not simply to help you cope with pain. It is to help you understand your pain differently, reduce the fear and struggle that can surround it, and build confidence in your ability to move toward the life you want, even while your nervous system is learning something new.
